Jane Green & Orchestra (Nat Shilkret) – I’m Gonna Meet My Sweetie Now, Fox-Trot (Davis-Greer) HMV1927 (UK product; recorded in New York)
NOTE: Jane Green’s is sad story of a great talent and a short life. Born in 1897 in Kentucky she died in LA California in 1931. She was partly Cherokee, the only daughter with four brothers. In 1905 her parents divorced and children with their mother relocated to LA, California. In 1911, Jane and her brother Fred established an entertainment duet, performing for their neighbors and called “Those Kentucky Kids”. In 1916 Jane met songwriter Jimmy Blyler whom she married in 1918 and who guided her career until his premature death in 1924. Later, Jane became object of advances from two other influential songwriters: Isham Jones (who dedicated “My Castle In Spain” to her) and Walter Donaldson, who wrote for her “Carolina In the Morning”. In 1925 Jane Green traveled to London to perform in the Piccadilly Hotel and the Kit Cat Club. Back in USA, she recorded about 30 sides and performed extensively, including Broadway (“Greenwich Village Follies”) and also appearing in several silent movies. In 1927 she married pianist Ron Wilson. Also that year Jane was seriously injured in New York City when the taxi she was riding in struck a streetcar. Jane’s nose had been broken and this affected her vocals. In 1930 she gave up artistic career and got involved as Christian Scientist in the religious activity. She died suddenly from a paralytic stroke in 1931.
