And if you want to say it is "religious right/institution", then the government should have no say in it. The Bible does not say it is "just one man and one woman"; in it, you have one man and several women, their concubines, and sometimes they got their "wives" in wars they they fought in. And you have to allow us to marry our own half-sister, because Abraham, "the father of the faithful", did just that (and as the example of the faithful, he had a concubine which brought the endless wars in the Middle East).
